Coast City lies 100 kilometres south of Brisbane
and is Queenslands most southerly urbanisation touching
both the border of Queensland and New South Wales. Stretching
along the southern coast it has 70 kilometres of coastline
from South Stradbroke Island in the north to Rainbow Bay
in the south.
The city is Australia’s
sixth largest with a population in excess of 425,000.
With an average of 300 days of
sunshine each year it is a sub-tropical paradise with
a temperature range of 66 to 83 degrees Fahrenheit in
the summer and 48 to 69 degrees Fahrenheit in the winter.
The Gold Coast is a favourite
destination for both Australians and tourist with many
water sports and activities on offer.
This coast is also a haven for
animals and birds as well as probably the most biologically-diverse
vegetation in Australia.
Broadbeach is well known
for its wide beach (hence the name), warm blue sea and
adjoining parkland which offers playground equipment and
excellent picnic facilities. The area is also home to
Kurrawa Surf Life Saving Club which hosts the annual Australian
Surf Lifesaving Titles.With this beautiful beach as a
backdrop, shopping and dining become quite a unique and
soothing experience.There is Broadbeach Mall and Surf
Parade that have a host of trendy outdoor cafes and restaurants
whereas Broadbeach offers beachfront craft markets on
the first and third Sunday of every month.
Southport is known as
the home of two of the city's well known private schools,
as well as the Gold Coast Hospital.It is situated across
the Nerang River from Surfers Paradise and overlooks the
Southport Broadwater and the Southport Spit.One of the
Gold Coast's largest shopping complexes is a feature in
Southport and is in the ideal position to access the Gold
Coast's world famous surf beaches and modern attractions
and theme parks. It is approximately 76 km from Brisbane.
Burleigh Heads is located
about midway along the Gold Coast's 70 kilometre coastline.
It holds a special place in the hearts of locals as hidden
beneath the expanse of green Burleigh headland and dotted
with pines and pandanus palms, this gently curving beach
is protected and offers amazing views north to Surfers
Paradise. It is famous throughout the world for its tubular
Burleigh Barrel waves and the beach is the venue for major
international surfboard riding tournaments. The dramatic
Burleigh headland was created by an ancient volcano and
is a sacred spot for Aborigines who once gathered here
to fish and feast. It adjoins the Burleigh Head National
Park on the banks of the Tallebudgera Creek.
Coolangatta is at the
southern end of the Gold Coast,and has some of the areas
loveliest beaches. The rocky headland known as Point Danger
merges into the delightful Rainbow Bay where it’s
gentle surf offers a safe haven to small children. To
the north is the Greenmount headland with it’s numerous
variety of trees and is the perfect view point from where
to watch the sun rise over clear blue waters. Below are
the white sands of Coolangatta's sheltered beach and nearby
picnic areas. Coolangatta's bistros and cafes are nearby
for those who wish to eat or drink and are open from morning
until at the earliest late evening.Market stalls are set
up along the beachfront on the second Sunday of each month
and here you can see and buy local handicrafts.
Surfers Paradise is one
